Veteran war correspondent Michael Nicholson covered conflicts including the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the Gulf War, The Falklands War and the conflict in Northern Ireland. The newsman was also known for smuggling a nine-year-old orphan out of war-torn Sarajevo and bringing her back to the UK where he adopted her. He wrote a book about the events and it inspired the 1997 film Welcome To Sarajevo. Dark Rosaleen is Michael's last book and I was asked to present jacket ideas for him. Michael loved the designs but in the end the publisher, History Press, decided on their own cover. Dark Rosaleen was a wonderful project to be involved in and a wondeful read.

Michael Nicholson OBE (1937 – 2016)
